About

Clare Murphy is a family law barrister who commenced her legal career in 2010. Clare worked at an Auckland CBD firm before starting her own practice as a barrister sole in 2022.

Clare specialises in family law including relationship property, family protection, incapacity (PPPR), care of children and family violence. Her legal experience also includes criminal and civil litigation, working on complex legal cases both in and out of Auckland.

Since 2017, the Family Court has approved Clare to act for children. She is passionate about facilitating outcomes for children caught in the middle of conflict.

Before joining the bar, Clare graduated with a Master of Laws with first class honours from the University of Auckland. She has been involved with various legal committees over the years and is a member of the Law Society’s Family Law Section, previously acting as its regional representative.

Outside of work, you will find Clare at the beach, spending time with her family or walking outdoors listening to music.

Providing independent advice for agreements that protect property and
other assets, called “contracting out agreements” or “pre-nups”

relationship, whether by separation or death of a partner or spouse (called “s21A agreements”)

their own affairs, and you require legal authority to undertake this role for them
